Second Round BELOVED CONVERSATIONS - Fall 2016

"In a spirit of wonder and with courageous love, we connect, grow, and act."

Holding conversations about personal and systemic racism, injustice, privilege is difficult. There is no “easy solution.” Because of this, our congregation recognizes the dire need to make intentional space for the actions of conversation, discovery, and healing. The Beloved Conversations course equips members with tools to address relevant and painful topics by empowering members to wade through uncomfortable conversations and dive into our misconceptions, assumptions, and struggles on topics of race and privilege.

Beloved Conversations is an experiential curriculum developed through the Fahs Collaborative at Meadville/Lombard Theological School: http://www.meadville.edu/beloved. We hosted our first Beloved Conversations cohort in the spring of 2016, and due to wide support and interest among church members, we will host a second class during Fall 2016.

If you have struggled to understand current issues of race in America or wondered what to do, this class is a good place to begin. The opening retreat will occur at church on the evening of Friday, September 16th and all day on Saturday, September 17th.  Attendance at the opening retreat is required for attending the class, and the class is limited to 25 participants.

Eight follow up sessions will be held at the church on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on the following dates:
                    Class #1: Sept 20th      Class #5: Oct 18th
                    Class #2: Sept 27th      Class #6: Oct 25th
                     Class #3: Oct 4th          Class #7: Nov 1st
                     Class #4: Oct 11th        Class #8: Nov 8th
